LEAP: (March 2007) We were finally able to burn one of the clearcut quadrants at each of our replicate Missouri LEAP Sites. Below is Chris Conner, Dan Hocking, Mike Osbourn, and Tracy Rittenhouse on 6 March 2007 at Pond 2, ready for action! Gus Raeker (DBCA Manager) and staff (Jeff and Tony) worked hard to prepare firelines for burning LEAP clearcut sites. The controlled burns finally happened at Ponds 2 & 4 on 6 March and at Ponds 1 & 5 on 7 March! Below is a picture by Dan of brush piles blasing at Pond 4.
(March 2007) Tracy had a paper using univariate kernel estimates of adult migration distance entitled "Distribution of amphibians in terrestrial habitat surrounding wetlands" accepted for publication in the March 2007 issue of the journal Wetlands. Ray, Michelle Boone, and Russ Bodie published an "electronic" paper on golf course management entitled "Golf courses could bolster amphibian communities" in Turfgrass and Environmental Research Online [http://usgatero.msu.edu/currentpastissues.htm] (view PDF file) (February 2007) Presentations: Bethany, Tracy, and Chris each gave talks at the recent Wisconsin Wetlands Association Science Forum in La Crosse 1-2 February Bethany and Sara each presented a poster at the meeting "Understanding Agriculture's Effects on Amphibians and Reptiles in a Changing World" in St. Louis 6-8 February.
