ESOP99

(1999 European Society for Photomorphogenesis Meeting, Frei Univ, Berlin, Germany)

Liscum lab attendees to this meeting were myself and Emily Stowe-Evans (PhD in Biological Sciences, 2000). Emily was in the third year of her dissertation work and this was the perfect meeting for her - small but attended by essentially all the "big-wigs" in plant photobiology. My first trip to Berlin (Emily's second). We enjoyed bpth the science and the "culture" of the meeting venue - given my love of WWII history is it any wonder?

All photos taken by either myself or Emily

Soviet War Memorial - Constructed as a memorial to the Red Army soldiers who liberated Berlin in April 1945. "The Last Battle" by Corneilus Ryan wonderfully tells the story of the Battle of Berlin

The Victory Column in the Tiergarten

Looking west towards the Brandenburger Tor (Brandenburg Gate) from within the Tiergarten

Reichstag - seat of the Bundestag (lower Parliament)

Checkpoint Charlie - former site of the border between the US and Soviet sectors of Cold War Berlin

Two shots of the Pergamon Alter in the Pergamon Museum on Museum Island - the museums on Museum Island are some of the best in the world!
