Mannie's WWII Library
Below is a 'card catalog' of Mannie's personal library of books on the Second World War. It has taken several years to amass this collection but it is far from a completed work (there are >60 additional books that Mannie has read and reviewed at Amazon that were: 1) once owned, then sold; 2) borrowed from the Columbia Public Library; or 3) borrowed from the MU library). As will be obvious, most of Mannie's library is centered on the ETO (NW European Theatre of Operations), although it extends to the Desert/Mediterranean Theatre, Biographies/Memoirs, Military Theory, and General WWII References. Like many hobbies in life money is the great limiting factor, and as many of you are aware books are generally not cheap (especially given Mannie's proclivity for hardback versus paperback!). Most of the books in Mannie's library are not on the current 'best-seller' list (nor were most of them ever), the publishing date of many goes back to the immediate post-war era (1946-1950), and a number are quite difficult to find. All of these issues contribute to pricing. Thank goodness for Amazon's Marketplace sellers and Abebooks - great on-line sources for used books at reasonable prices, and the friends in the military history arena who have provide gratis copies of varies books.
This catalog is organized by by author alphabetically within a greater organization (by topic as introduced above). Each book has been assigned to just one topic area and all judgements along those lines were Mannie's. This page is constantly under construction/update so visit often (last update 3 Jan 2008 - thanks to members of my lab for giving my a Amazon gift cert for Christmas and allowing me to keep my habit alive!).
