The cover of the December 2007 issue of Stem Cells and Development featured images from a publication by the Kirk Lab. Both images represent in vitro nerual stem cell niches derived from mouse embryonic stem cells without the addition of exogenous growth factors. PDGFr1a (red) and Dapi (blue) staining on the left represent a core of neural precursors at the base of the cellular aggregates. The image on the right shows the core of PDGFr1a (red) neural precursors surrounded by BLBP (green) positive radial glia, which bridge the gaps between cellular aggregates.
