Research
My current research focuses on modeling factors influencing avian nest success in the bottomland hardwood forests and cottonwood plantations of the Mississippi alluvial valley. I am also completing a methodological comparison of density estimation methods, and plan to apply this to our understanding of population demographics in this fragmented and altered habitat. Additionally, while pursuing my dissertation I researched and developed a video system for monitoring nests which was substantially cheaper than marketed systems and offered the improvement of a greater working distance. I continue to collaborate with another student in the lab as he is testing a fully digital system that is smaller and lighter weight.
